FITTING GUIDELINES
If you can't try on the studio samples, use the following as a guide.
Tights: check the size guide for height first and aim to be in middle to upper middle of the range, then check to ensure you are under the upper end of the weight as well. If you are close to the top of the range, size up. If in doubt, size up! Better to be a little big than a little small - looser tights are less likely to run so they last longer! There are only two size for children, it is not unusual for tweens to be in adult size tights. Don't stress it, tights really can't be too big!
Shoes: Use the dancer's street shoe size as the guide (not the running shoe that has lots of growing room, but actual street shoe size)
Ballet slippers should fit like a sock, not a shoe. They will relax a little (at least a half a size), which gives some growing room, but they should not be too big.
Leather ballet slippers - add a half size to the dancer's actual street shoe size.
Canvas ballet slippers:
- Youth street shoe - add three sizes
- Women's street shoe - add two sizes
- Men's street shoe - add three sizes (3.5 if he will be wearing socks) and order a Wide (W)
Tap shoes - add a half size, this will allow growing room.
Dancewear: Dancewear does not fit like streetwear - it generally fits smaller, and torso length (girth) is the most important measurement. Except for hip hop, dancewear should generally fit snug, like a bathing suit.
As a general rule, add a size to their regular clothing size (e.g. if your child is 6T, order an 8-10/Medium). If they are big/tall for their age or have a long torso, consider going up two sizes. If they are small for their size, order the same size as their regular clothing.
Boys/Mens sizing tips:
Leather Ballet Slippers: Add a full size if he will be wearing socks. For adult sizes, add 3 sizes.
Boy's Tap Shoes (Oxfords): add a half size for kids and add 2.5 sizes for men's.
