FITTING TIPS
Use the following as a guide.
Tights: check the size guide for height first and aim to be in middle to upper middle of the range, then check to ensure your dancer is below the upper end of the weight range as well. If your dancer is close to the top of the range, size up. If in doubt, size up! Better to be a little big than a little small - looser tights are less likely to run so they last longer! There are only two sizes for children, it is not unusual for tweens to be in adult size tights. Don't stress it, tights really can't be too big!
Shoes: Use the dancer's street shoe size as the guide (not a running shoe that has lots of growing room, but actual street shoe size). Kids street shoe sizes usually stop at 2, so if they are in youth sizes (3-6), add two sizes to convert to ladies size.
Ballet slippers should fit like a sock, not a shoe. They will relax a little (at least a half a size), which gives growing room for the season, but they should not be too big.
Canvas ballet slippers:
- Children's street shoe up to size 1 - add 1.5 sizes
- Children's street shoe up to size 2-6 - add 3.5 sizes
- Women's street shoe size 7-10 - add 1.5 sizes
- Women's street shoe size 10.5+ - add 2 sizes
Dancewear: Dancewear does not fit like streetwear - it generally fits smaller, and torso length (girth) is the most important measurement. Dancewear should generally fit snug, like a bathing suit.
As a general rule, add a size to their regular clothing size (e.g. if your child is 6T, order an 8-10/Medium). If they are big/tall for their age or have a long torso, consider going up two sizes. If they are small for their size, order the same size as their regular clothing. Once they are a size 12 in street clothing, they will likely be into adult sizes in dancewear. If they are tall for their age, they may jump the XS (PA) and move into a ladies Small (SA).
