How to Sew Your Pointe Shoes

How to sew your pointe shoes:

First, let’s look at what you are going need

How to sew your ribbons:

Once you have gathered everything you need, cut your ribbons into four equal pieces. After cutting them, take a lighter and burn the edges to prevent fraying.

The thread in our kits is strong, you do not need to double thread it! Single only if you are using the needle and thread in our pointe shoe skits. Try and sew your ribbons on the inside canvas only so that there is no evidence of your sewing on the outside of your pointe shoe. To see what I mean, pinch the satin on the outside of the shoe, and the canvas on the inside, and pull them away from each other. Once you have that figured out, sew your ribbons on going around in a square.

Single Loop Elastics

With your ribbons sewn, try on your pointe shoe. Kneeing, with your leg at a 90-degree angle, take one end of the elastic and place it by the back seam. Wrap it around your ankle so that is snug. Once measured cut your elastic. Repeat with the other shoe.

Criss-Cross Elastics

With this method, you will need to have two sets of elastics. With your ribbons sewn, try on your pointe shoe. Kneeing, with your leg at a 90-degree angle, take one end of the elastic and place it by the back seam. Wrap the elastic around your foot so that it is in front of your ribbons. Measure so that the elastic is snug. Repeat this process for the other side.
